Strategies for Sustainable Urban Development in the Historical Cities of Bukhara and Samarkand (CDS), Uzbekistan
Realisation : 2013-2014
Financed by : World Bank / Cities Alliance
Client : Ministry of Economy
The Cities of Bukhara and Samarkand, both listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites, are major economic centres both regionally and for Uzbekistan. The goal of the project was to develop an Urban Development Strategy (CDS) for each city. This CDS would identify and prioritise key sectors for inclusive local development, in order to promote the two cities’ sustainable urban development. The project will also promote the establishment of cooperation programs between cities to more fully realise their economic potential.
